Georgetown, MA - Douglas Campbell Lobley, 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 3, 2019 after a long illness.
He was born on September 11, 1931 to LeRoy and Ethel (Campbell) Lobley. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carol (Webster) Lobley; three sons, Peter Lobley of Georgetown, David Lobley and his wife Kimberly of Amesbury, and Richard Lobley and his wife Carla of Poland, Maine; seven grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Kendra Jones and her husband Andrew, Christopher, Mariah, Stephen, Heather, Hannah, and Amanda; sister-in-law and her husband, Mary and Elden Seeley; brother-in-law and his wife, Merritt and Helen Webster; several cousins; one niece and four nephews. He is remembered for his love and loyalty to his family, his willingness to always help people, his love of old cars, and his many jokes. His family remembers the many Saturday morning breakfasts that he cooked for them at their Georgetown home in earlier years. He served in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer USS Perry for four years. Years later, one of his fellow sailors shared that he was known to be the strongest man on the ship. Anyone whom he greeted with a handshake could attest to his vise-like grip. Over the course of his life, he donated approximately 400 pints of blood for the good of others. In 2006, he was recognized on the field at Fenway Park as the American Red Cross Blood Donor of the Game. He had a long career as a design draftsman, working most recently for many years at General Electric until his retirement. Over the years, he enjoyed gardening, working on his cars, listening to organ music, and spending time with his family and friends locally and in the great state of Maine. All are welcome to attend a service celebrating his life at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 9th at New England Bible Church, 60 Chandler Road, Andover, MA. Interment with Navy Honors will be held at The Castine Town Cemetery, Castine, Maine in the spring.
