Arthur Richard Reed - Class Of 1960

Hudson, Fla. and Otis - Arthur "Dickie" Richard Reed, Hudson, Fla. and Otis, Maine. Dickie was born on April 26, 1942, in Bangor, Maine, to A. Lowell and Clara (Porter) Reed. Dickie passed away at home on January 29, 2020, following heart surgery. Dickie attended schools in Orrington and Brewer, graduating from B.H.S. Class of 1960.
Always a hard worker, he started in the fields of Orrington and at Kozy Korner store. In 1966, Dickie and his young family moved to Torrington, Conn. where he was employed and schooled by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, becoming a tool and die maker. In 1972, he returned to Maine where he eventually went to work at James River in Old Town, retiring in 2004. Dickie was a true snow bird for eight months each year in Hudson, Florida and four months each year at the family camp on Beech Hill Pond in Otis, Maine. Many fun times were celebrated at camp with family and friends, enjoying fishing, swimming, boating, horse shoes, ladder golf and great dinners sitting next to the camp fire. Dickie loved all sports but his one true love was golf, which he enjoyed with his three sons, nephews, and many friends. Dickie was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, New York Giants, and the New England Patriots. Dickie enjoyed playing poker, cribbage, reading, and intense friendly debates, also word puzzles and he mastered Rubik's Cube, which he could finish in under 3 minutes. Dickie liked to travel visiting four continents, many cruises and almost all fifty states including Alaska and Hawaii.
Dickie is greatly missed by his wife of 58 years, Nancy (Rogerson) Reed; his sons, Richard (Robin), Greg and his fiancee (Lisa), Phillip (Charlaine), and Laurie (Terry) Gosselin; six grandchildren, Katelyn Ray, Anthony, Nolan, Bryce, Reece, and Jacob Reed; great-grandchildren, Kanen and Eva Ray, Kirk and Kennedy Reed; brother, Robert (Debbie); one aunt, Dorothy; one uncle, Dana (Carol); cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Lewis.
A memorial for family and friends will be held in late summer or when it is safe to gather at the camp in Otis. A golf tournament to remember G.D. Dickie Reed will be held at Pine Hill Golf Club to benefit The American Heart Association.
