
Brewer - Frances L. Vittum, 76, wife of Michael D. Vittum, died Sept. 3, 2018, in Brewer, after a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 13, 1942, in Holden, the daughter of Walter and Rose Marie (Belle) Tardiff.
Frances was a 1960 graduate of Brewer High School. She worked as a school cook at Holden Elementary School and worked in various retail positions over the years. Frances enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, pickling, cooking and walks with her husband of 54 years. She was known for her quick wit, infectious laugh and always trying to make someone else's day brighter.
Surviving in addition to her husband of Brewer are three children, Elise Mica and her husband, David, of Winslow, Michael Vittum Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Brewer and Darren Vittum and his wife, Denise, of Brewer; eight grandchildren, Josh, Nate, Michael III, Julianne, Zoe, Riley, Cooper and Carter; five brothers, Ronald Tardiff of Iowa, Gerald Tardiff and Walter "Skip" Tardiff, both of Holden, Frank and Philip Tardiff, both of Eddington and a special friend, Sharon Brigalli and her husband, Wally, of Glenburn. She was predeceased by two sisters, Anita Lapan and Lois Vail; and by four brothers, Vaughn, Michael, John and Carleton "Sam" Tardiff.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Woodlands Senior Living - Memory Care unit - Brewer, and Beacon Hospice for their dedication and genuine love and concern for Frances.
Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where a service honoring her life will be held at 7 p.m. as the visitation concludes. A private burial will be at Hill Rest Cemetery, Wiswell Road, Holden.
