Carl Kelly - Class Of 1962

BREWER and CARY, N.C. Carl V. Kelly, 63, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 18, 2008, at his residence. He was born Aug. 31, 1944. He was the fourth of eight children, son of the late Charles Jr. and Helen Kelly of Brewer. Carl attended Brewer schools and graduated from Brewer High, Class of '62 and from the University of Maine at Orono with a Bachelor of Arts in English, Class of 1969. He worked for Eastern Fine Paper in 1967. In 1968-69 he was employed by the Bangor Daily News as the Night Police Beat Reporter. He then served in the Army before landing a job at the New York Daily News as a reporter. In 1973 he joined AT&T as public relations manager. He worked for 32 years for AT&T and its spin off, Lucent Technologies, where he became the head of speech writing. He retired in 2005. He taught speech writing and English at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Lafayette College for three years. Outside of his family and friends his greatest love was for the Red Sox, Giants and Celtics. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan; and two daughters, Erinn and Jennifer, both of New York and New Jersey; sisters, Mary Bell of Bangor, Carolyn Pelletier of Old Town, Kathleen Julian of Connecticut, and Charlotte Kelly of Bangor; brothers, Charles III of Holden, James of Bangor and Paul of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews. His services were held Saturday, Feb. 23, in Chester, N.J.
