BUCKSPORT - Roger W. Howard Jr. died March 25, 2010, in an accident in New Port Richey, Fla., doing what this million-mile rider loved to do, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Roger was born Feb. 9, 1944. Roger was a life member of Harley Owners Group, holding positions of director, assistant director, safety officer and road captain. He was also a life member of United Bikers of Maine, serving as vice president of safety and education, county director, Penobscot County area representative and road captain. Roger was an active member of Maine Motorcyclist Political Action Committee, serving as an adviser with the Department of Transportation about motorcycle concerns. Roger spent many years involved with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scout Leader in Bucksport. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Bucksport Flotilla, was another passion of Roger's and he spent more than 20 years involved with that group. Roger retired after 40 years of employment with International Paper Co. Roger will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his mother, Edith Arnold and her husband, Alden, of Bucksport; stepmother, Eunice Howard Baldwin and her husband, Earl, of Orrington; son, Ronald Howard and his wife, Linda and their daughter, Rachael, of Wales, Maine; son, Robert Howard and his daughter, Sydnie, of Bucksport; son, Richard Howard and his wife, Darcy and their daughters, Paige and Emma, of Bucksport; sister, Peggy Masterman and her husband, John, of Roseville, Calif., and their son, John "Josh"; brother, Brent Howard and his wife, Jayne, of Bucksport and their daughter, Jennifer and her sons, Evan and Jacob, daughter, Kristin and her husband, David, and their children, Caleb and Hannah, and son, Kyle; sister, Colleen Johnson and her husband, Ronald, of South Portland and their daughters, Crystal and Emily; and brother, William of Old Orchard Beach and his children, Claire and Mitchell. Roger is also survived by Mary Moore and her daughter, Tiffany Wynn and her husband, Jim, her son, Marcus Moore and his wife, Heather, and extended families; many aunts, uncles, cousins and fellow motorcycle riders. Roger was predeceased by his father, Roger W. Howard Sr.
