Dedham - James Carroll Cook passed away January 29, 2024, at the Veterans Home in Bangor. Devoted son, brother, husband, dad, and grandfather. A kind man who made his impact with a gentle heart, Jim had deep compassion and a calm and reassuring presence. He was loved by many.
Jim was born October 23, 1944, in Eastport. His time there laid a strong foundation for a man deeply connected to his roots. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1964 and deployed to Vietnam in 1966 to serve in the Military Police for the U.S. Army. Upon return, Jim pursued a long career as a Bangor Firefighter and served as a union steward. He loved the home he built at Green Lake where he took long swims and boat rides with his wife, Carol, whom he loved dearly. They enjoyed hiking with their dog, Elvis, their annual winter trips to Cocoa Beach, and very much enjoyed their time at the VFW and the Eagles Club in Brewer, dancing and spending time with friends.
Jim was predeceased by his mother, Betty Peasley; siblings, Ann Gruber and Johnny Peasley; and a granddaughter, Hunter. He is survived by his wife, Carol; her children, Scott Hildreth (Angela) and Renee Graves (Ron); a grandson, Griffin Graves; a brother, Charles Cook; a sister, Jane Peasley; and extended friends and family throughout the region.
