
Brewer - Elsie Ida (Tracy) Chapman of Brewer, passed away peacefully at her home on January 1, 2021, with her loving family by her side. Elsie was born on November 10, 1939, in Jonesport, Maine, the daughter of Asie Merrill Tracy and Lillian (Farnsworth) Tracy. She attended Brewer High School and was honored to receive her diploma from Bangor Adult Community Education in May, 2013.
Elsie married the love of her life, Philip Joseph Chapman, Sr in 1958. Together they raised a beautiful family of five children and made their home on Union Street in Brewer. Mom was especially proud of her children and grandchildren. She worked alongside her husband in their cleaning business "Phil Chapman's General Cleaning Service." Mom also worked at Pyr-a-larm Company, Bass Shoe Company, as well as in the shipping department at Spot Belt Company in Bangor. Elsie was employed for 22 years at ZF Lemforder in Brewer until the plant closed in 2010. Many of you may remember seeing Mom bowl at Bangor Brewer Bowling Lanes in Brewer. She was especially good at bowling with many trophies to prove her love of the sport.
Elsie is predeceased by her husband, Philip Joseph Chapman Sr; her sons, Philip Joseph Jr, and Dana Allen; her parents, Asie and Lillian Tracy; and her brother, Milton Tracy. She is survived by her daughters, Debra Byrne (Michael) of Winslow; Tandra Moen (Scott) of Albion; son, Rick Chapman of Bangor. Elsie has twelve grandchildren, Erik Byrne, Amanda Underwood, Kevin Byrne, Rebecca Chapman, Philip Chapman III, Danny, Cody, Randy, Keely and John Manzo, Shailene and Victoria Chapman, and many great grandchildren. Two sisters, Irma (Tracy) Bentley of Texas City, Texas and Sheila (Tracy) Pelkey of Ridgeville, South Carolina; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. Mom will be sadly missed by all who knew her and especially, Veronica Chapman of Veazie. The family is especially thankful for Mom's life-long special friend, Carol Small of Etna.
We hold many memories of Mom (Nana) in our hearts. We know Mom will forever be watching over her family and friends. Until we meet again Mom, "Good-bye, we love you."
