Raymond Grass - Class Of 1966

Oxbow Plantation And Phoenix, Ariz - OXBOW PLANTATION AND PHOENIX, ARIZ. - Raymond 'Ray' William Grass passed away Jan. 28, 2014. Ray was born June 30, 1948, in Bangor, the eldest son of Brian D. and Charlotte S. (Carney) Grass.

Ray grew up in OxBow attending the little one-room schoolhouse and was the only student in his class. Ray attended Ashland High School and graduated Brewer High School Class of 1966. Ray loved music and learned, by ear, how to play the guitar and harmonica at a very early age. During high school, he taught himself how to play the drums and organ only to show his friends, Mike, Oscar and Heinz how to play. A new band was formed, "The MODMEN", playing all the hits of the 60's. Music and building fast cars were his hobbies. After graduation, Ray completed truck-driving school. He then enlisted into the Air Force in 1967. He was honorably discharged in 1974. After the service, Ray spent most of his life in Phoenix, AZ. He was an avid race car driver at the Manzanita Speedway and the Phoenix International Raceway. If he wasn't driving, he was building race cars. Ray loved the "fast lane".

Ray is survived by his son, Craig Brian Grass and his partner, Peggy Allen Bouffard, of Biddeford; his daughter, Carey Lynn Besse; and one granddaughter, Samantha, of Glenburn; sister, Judy Sherman and her husband, Steven of OxBow; brothers, Dale of OxBow and Brent and his wife, Ellen of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews. At the time of Ray's death, Dale's beloved Donna Provencher was still with us but has since been called home. Ray was predeceased by both his parents.

A celebration of Ray's life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17th at the home of Steve and Judy Sherman, 685 OxBow Rd., OxBow, ME - casual attire - lunch will be served.
