Charles Matson - Class Of 1966

Brewer - Charles H. Matson, 65, died May 28, 2013, in his family home on North Main Street, Brewer. He was born Dec. 14, 1947, in Bangor, son of C. Waldo and Verna (Dunham) Matson.

Chuck graduated from Brewer High School in 1966 and from University of Maine at Portland-Gorham, in 1972. He taught at Nokomis Regional High for 33 years. Chuck was a member of the Air National Guard for 20 years. After completing his basic training in 1972, he married Dorothy Ouellette and they settled in Brewer, where they raised their two sons, Dan and Andy. They celebrated 40 years of marriage this past December. In addition to teaching school, Chuck was a projectionist for area movie theaters and ran a print shop with Dot for many years. They also owned and operated Matson Marine, Bucksport, for 15 years. After retiring from teaching, Chuck joined Dot in Mapleton where she serves as united Methodist pastor to churches in Washburn and Mapleton. Beloved by both congregations, he was a supportive partner with her in numerous areas of ministry.

He was predeceased by his parents; and mother-in-law, June Ouellette. Chuck's memory will be cherished by his wife, Dot; sons and their families, Daniel and Nicole Matson, Reid and Dayna of Bowdoin, and Andrew and wife, Elizabeth, of Brighton, Mass.; sister, Lorraine and Earl Dill of Lincoln; father-in-law, Emile Ouellette of Dexter; sister-in-law, Suzanne and Roland Chabot of Ripley; six nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends.

Celebrations of his life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Mapleton United Methodist Church and 3 p.m. Monday, June 10, at North Brewer/Eddington United Methodist Church. Fellowship and a time to greet the family will be after each service. Interment will be at Day Road Cemetery, Brewer. Those who wish to honor Chuck's memory are invited to make gifts to a charity of their choice.
