
East Bucksport - Erlene Faye (Perkins) Appleby, 67, died January 22, 2016 at Brewer Center for Health and Rehabilitation with her loving family by her side, after she fought a long 20 month battle with small-cell lung cancer. Erlene was born March 3, 1948 in Bangor, daughter of the late Daniel and Martha L. (Moore) Perkins.
She graduated from Brewer High School in 1966. Erlene worked at channel 5 and channel 2 in her early adulthood, she was a Sunday School teacher at East Bucksport United Methodist Church in the late 70's early 80's, and she was a Girl Scout leader in the 80's. Erlene loved to do crafts and play cards with Charlene Arey, Mary Staples, Karen Staples, Mary Goode and Judith Miller. She was a member of the Brewer Eagles Club since the 70's until 2016. Besides being a devoted wife, mother, aunt, gram and great-gram "GG," she was also considered, mom, gram and dear friend to many. She loved to talk about her childhood and different events in her life, and enjoyed spending every moment she could with her family and friends, especially Charlene Arey, who she considered a sister (around town they were called "The Lene Sisters"), and her dearest childhood friend from the first day of school till beyond high school, Martha DeRusha Bouchard.
Erlene is survived by her daughter, Danielle Millett and husband Mark; two sons, Alan Holyoke of Hollis Center and David Appleby of Bucksport; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two nieces and two nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by one brother, Michael Perkins; husband, Lawrence Appleby; and her eldest daughter, Amy (Appleby) Hamm.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday January 28, 2016 at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Hillside Cemetery Bucksport.
