Marguerite Harding (Munzel) - Class Of 1960

Marguerite "Margo" Munzel passed away Friday, August 29, 2014, at a local hospital, losing her battle with cancer after fighting bravely since November. Margo was born on February 8, 1942, in Bangor, Maine.

Margo was preceded in death by her parents, Urban and Helen Harding and her brother, Kenneth Harding. She is survived by her husband, James "Jim" Munzel, sisters, Diane Wheeler and Barbara Ewing, sister's in law, Sylvia Strode and Deborah Cook, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves many friends made throughout the years.

Margo was living in Maine when she met her husband-to-be, Jim, while he was stationed at Dow AFB in Bangor, ME. They wed January 16, 1965, and she began her new role as an Air Force wife for the next 25 years, traveling throughout the United States and Europe. She loved the "nomad" lifestyle, moving every few years, and meeting and making new friends along the way. Her dream assignment was to Camp Darby in Tirrenia, Italy, a small resort town near Pisa, Italy, where she and her friends would hop on a train to go shopping in Florence, Rome, and other delightful places. Tyndall AFB became the final assignment for Margo and Jim, moving here from Germany in 1986, and settling down after Military retirement in 1990. Margo was a member of the Emmaus United Methodist Church.

Margo was a bookkeeper, working in the Naf Accounting office at Tyndall AFB until retiring in 1997.

Upon retirement, Margo began "crafting" in earnest, always stamping her own greeting cards and becoming quite proficient at basket weaving. She and Jim also traveled the country in their motor home, visiting places they may have missed in their Air Force travels. One of the highlights of her travels was a visit to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. Margo loved all God's creatures, wild and domestic. Her home was never without several furry critters under foot.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pamela Overmyer and staff, Dr. Syed Mahmood and staff, Emerald Coast Hospice, Covenant Hospice, and many friends and neighbors, and "extended family" at Emmaus United Methodist Church for their care, comfort, and support during this difficult period.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Hankins officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Margo's favorite charity, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741.
