BANGOR and BREWER – Carol Jane (Simpson) Gass, 63, of Brewer, died Oct. 22, 2004, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 11, 1941, in Brewer, the daughter of Marjorie Simpson. Carol was a graduate of Brewer High School and a long time employee of Sears. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family. Carol had many interest, including flower and vegetable gardening, quilting and was an avid reader. Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Gass Mercier of Scarborough, Karen A. Tardiff and her husband, Thom, of Brewer; two grandchildren, Erica and Garrett Mercier, both of Scarborough; one brother, William Simpson of Brewer. In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by a brother, David Simpson; one sister, Sally Wain; and a special cousin, Virginia Dempsey. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, at the Woodlawn Cemetery, North Main Street, Brewer with the Rev. Grace Bartlett pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church of Bangor officiating.
