Orrington - John Fritts Mackie, 74, died unexpectedly May 12, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor. He was born August 1, 1948, in Bangor, the son of James and Catherine (Fritts) Mackie.
John graduated from Brewer High School, class of 1966, and the University of Maine at Farmington, class of 1970. Following graduation, he was employed by Getchell Brothers. He went on to work for Brewer Parks and Rec for many years as Parks and Cemetery Supervisor until his retirement. He was a well-respected football coach for all levels, from youth to varsity football in Brewer, and touched many lives. His dogs, Nancy Pooch, Snowflake, Angela, Jake, Cody, Charlie, Eli, and Toby, have all held special places in his heart.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Betsy (Freese); sisters-in-law, Martha Shattuck (Tom) and Amy Estabrook (Tim); brother-in-law, Andrew Freese (Rosemary); along with many nieces and nephews.
