The Villages, FL - Lenly Garvan Mathews, 89, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2021, after battling multiple health issues. Len was born to the late Madeline E. Annis and LaForest E. Mathews II on June 23, 1932, in Brewer, Maine.

Len graduated from Brewer, Maine, high school and later graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Education. Len was in the Air Force and then the National Guard, retiring after 32 years. He was a devoted husband and loved his wife, Joan, during their 67 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Mathews of The Villages; his son, Mark Mathews and his wife, Cairann, of Massachusetts; and his daughter Dawn Mathews (deceased). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sean, Jennifer and husband, Brian, Adam, Alex and wife, Katie, Halie and husband, Shane, Kevin, Lauren and husband, David; and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, LaForest Mathews (deceased); many nieces and nephews; and his longtime friend, Howard.
