Brewer And Orono - Catherine "Kay" (Piper) Littlefield Danforth, 95, died peacefully Jan. 9, 2013 at a Bangor health center with her family at her side. She was born Nov. 30, 1917, in Bangor, the daughter of Wendell C. and Eva M. (Irvine) Piper.

Kay, as she was known, was a longtime resident of Brewer and had been residing in Orono for the past 10 years, where she and her husband, Hazen Danforth were the first residents of Dirigo Pines Retirement Community. She was a 1935 graduate of Brewer High School and a graduate of Kents Hill School. Kay worked for many years as a secretary in the zoology department of the University of Maine, Orono. She was a founding member of Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Bangor, and had served on numerous committees there since 1954. Kay was also an avid bird watcher and later in life, enjoyed her time traveling around the U.S. with her husband, Hazen Danforth.

Kay is survived by two children, Tom Littlefield of Shelbyville, Tenn., and Jeff Littlefield of Old Town; a stepson, Fred Danforth of Mattapoisett, Mass.; grandchildren, Jody Williams and her husband, Jarrod Williams, of Brewer, Brock Littlefield of Bangor, Kristen Carver of Bangor, Laura Knight of Bridgton, Jaime Taylor of Manchester, N.H., Sarah Littlefield of Hull, Mass., Trygg Larsson Danforth of Baltimore, Pierce Larsson of Medford, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Jaiden and Jordin Williams, Kadence, Blake and Logan Littlefield, all of Brewer, Brian Files of Boston and Serenity Knight of Bridgeton, Mass., Maleah and Antonia Taylor, both of Manchester, Mass.; one brother, Philip Piper of Bethel, Ohio; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Jack Littlefield and her second husband, Hazen Danforth; and three brothers, Charles, Richard and Wendell Piper.

A service in honor and memory of Kay will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 375 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, with Pastor Russell Hamilton, presiding and Chaplain Richard Dickinson, assisting. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Brewer,
