
BANGOR and BREWER - Hazel (Andrews) Clewley, 92, wife of the late Rodney M. Clewley, died Dec. 15, 2013, at a Bangor health care center. She was born Aug. 11, 1921, in Brewer, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Strang) Andrews.
Hazel attended the Brewer schools and graduated from Brewer High School, class of 1938. She attended the Maine School of Commerce, now Husson University before taking a position with Eastern Fine Paper Co., in Brewer, working there until 1949. In 1947 she married Rodney M. Clewley of Brewer and Holden. After being a homemaker for a number of years, she was employed from 1962 to 1976 as a secretary in the Brewer School Department. Hazel and Rod resided in Brewer until 1974, moving to Holden for their retirement years. They enjoyed many winters in Florida and, since her husband's death in 1997, she has resided at Boyd Place, Bangor, and more recently at Phillip Strickland House. Hazel was a member of the Sunshine Club for Children and a life member of Tuscan Chapter No. 148 Order of the Eastern Star, Bangor. In later years, she volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital Gift Shop and enjoyed games and bingo with lady friends.
Surviving are a son, David R. Clewley and his wife, Natalie, of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Ellen Duffey and her husband, Richard V. Duffey, of Phillips Lake; two grandsons, Eric R. Duffey and his wife, Amanda, and Andrew R. Duffey; two great-grandchildren, Mason Richard and James Andrew Duffey; sister-in-law, Marion Andrews of Brewer; and very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband, Rodney, Hazel was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur E., Harris W. and Robert S. Andrews.
