Cecelia Anne Gagnon - Class Of 1948

BANGOR - C. Anne Gagnon died Jan. 20, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was born Nov. 14, 1930, in Brewer, daughter of William Gagnon and Helen (Murray) Gagnon. A graduate of Brewer High School, Anne received her registered nursing degree from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, her bachelor's from Seton Hall University, and her master's from the University of Pittsburgh. Anne retired after many years as assistant professor of nursing from West Virginia University. She devoted her life to public health work and was a teacher of clinical nursing for most of her career. Due to a lifelong passion for public service, Anne followed her heart and spent five years performing missionary work in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, teaching nursing and health care skills. This experience was the highlight of Anne's life. After retiring, she settled in her home state of Maine, enjoying her leisure time fishing from the dock at Hopkins Pond. Anne became active in Eddington Historical Society and was president of Brewer Community Council. Anne is survived by two sisters, Janet Tourigny and her husband, Joseph, of Brewer, and Kate Gagnon of Bangor; brother, William Gagnon and wife, Ida, of Warren; several nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much. The family expresses their gratitude to Westgate Manor for the excellent care they provided, making Anne feel loved.
