Florence Ring (Miller) - Class Of 1946

ORRINGTON - ORRINGTON - Florence "Sis" (Ring) Miller died April 18, 2010. She was born Aug. 15, 1928, in Brewer, the daughter of Carroll H. and Alfreda (Connor) Ring. She attended and graduated from Brewer and Orrington schools. Florence graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She practiced nursing at Eastern Maine General Hospital and Taylor Osteopathic Hospital in many capacities, and was a certified CPR instructor. Florence attended the Interdenominational Youth Fellowship group at Bangor Theological Seminary, where she met and married her late husband of 50 years, Dr. Waldo B. Miller. Her special love was caring for her beloved husband, a stroke patient, for many years. Florence was instrumental in starting the stroke support club called Every Day Is Saturday and was editor of their monthly newsletter. Florence enjoyed singing barber shop style music with the Sweet Adelines Heart of Maine Chorus, in which she was a charter member, bass section leader for many years and served on the board of directors. She was also active at Hammond Street Senior Center, where she loved to do arts and crafts, especially oil painting. Florence attended Second Congregational Church of Brewer. She was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Theodore C. Ring. Surviving are a daughter, Sarah Jane Blake and her husband, Jim, of Ithaca, N.Y.; a son, David Miller and his wife, Sharon, of Newcastle; a sister, Barbara Davis and her husband, Rick, of Orrington; a sister-in-law, Betty Ring of Orrington
