Tolland, CT. - Geneva (Orcutt) Dow, 87, of Tolland, Connecticut, and formerly of Vernon, Connecticut, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020, at Woodlake at Tolland Nursing and Rehab Center. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Born in Holden, the daughter of the late Lewis and Arlene Orcutt, she grew up and lived in Brewer, moving to Connecticut in 1950. She raised her seven children in Hartford, Tolland, and Rockville, Connecticut. Geneva enjoyed all kinds of needlework, including sewing, knitting, and bargello. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing all of her children's clothing when they were young and elaborate square dancing outfits for herself and her husband. Her children learned to sew, including her sons, who use it in their upholstery businesses. She knit countless mittens and Christmas stockings for every member of the family as it grew.
She loved to play cards and passed that love on to her children. She also loved music, dancing, and singing. She was still singing old favorites at Woodlake long after Alzheimer's had taken other memories from her. Geneva's favorite vacation spot was Ogunquit, where she would go with her family and friends and where she spent her surprise 75th birthday with almost 40 family members from 10 states.
She is survived by her children, Susan Delnicki of Ellington, Connecticut, Debra Dow of Rockville, Connecticut, Barbara Andrade and her husband, Luis of Florida, Diane Boudreau and her husband, Jay of Vernon, Connecticut, Daniel Dow of Wisconsin and David Dow and his wife, Kathy of Florida; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine Cone of Idaho, Jeanette Collins and Norma Akerson of Maine; her brother, Gerald Orcutt and his partner, Ed Kidder of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Geneva was predeceased by her daughter, Pauline Dow Thomas.
