Pearl Carruthers (Banks) - Class Of 1940

LIBERTY — Pearl Agnes Carruthers Banks, 95 years young, passed away at her home on the lake on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, with her family at her side.

The daughter of Clara and Gordon Carruthers, she was born in Orono, Maine, on November 4, 1922. She graduated from Brewer High School in 1940 and attended Maine School of Commerce (Husson University) where she was an outstanding basketball player under Coach Clara Swan. She was later inducted into the Husson University Basketball Hall of Fame.

She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, her brothers Eldon Carruthers and Bill Carruthers, her sisters Edna Chute, Jean Babson, Margaret Eaton, and Shirley Osgood, and her dear friend, Deborah Rand.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Banks, and his wife, Gail, of Stuart, Florida, her daughter, Alana Holt, and her husband, Tim of West Gardiner, Maine; a foster daughter Faith Garrold, and her husband, Don, of Searsport, Maine, as well as her grandchildren Tiffany (Ben), Sterling, Dominic (Ganina) James (Denise), Richard (Jennifer), great-grandchildren Teleah, Samuel, Vincenzo, Deanna, Kimberly, Nathaniel and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Above all else, Pearl loved spending time with her family. A loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan, she enjoyed all sports and with her husband, Raymond, was a member of the Belfast Curling Club for many years. She also loved music and would sing along with her favorite songs. Up until the last weeks of her life, she enjoyed yoga with Deb and walking to breakfast at Lori’s with her friend Jane.
