DEDHAM – Al Crowley, 66, passed away Oct. 24, 2010, surrounded by his loving family and friends at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. Al was born Nov. 8, 1943, in Meriden, Conn., to Burnham A. Crowley and Janet (Yerxa) Clark. He grew up in Orrington and he attended Brewer High School. He achieved the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his service in the Marines, he studied and worked as an apprentice for Pratt & Whitney. In 1969, he moved to Bangor to work at the General Electric Turbine Plant, finishing his nearly 30-year career as a tooling engineer in 1998. As a young man and into his retirement years, he enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter and became a registered Maine Guide. Al loved snowmobiling, water-skiing, boating and four-wheeling with his family and friends, always desiring…”the need for speed.” He also enjoyed flying and earned his private pilot’s license in 1990. Al was a wonderful husband, father, son, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Muriel Sullivan-Crowley of Dedham; two daughters, Tammy Williams and husband, Skip, of Bedford, N.H., and Shelley Collins and fiance, Raymond Roy, of Woolwich; five grandchildren, Kaylee and husband, Andrew, Chelsea, Jacinda, Cassandra and Matthew; and many dear friends.
