Brewer and Bangor - Catherine "Kay" Boynton, 92, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022, at a Bangor hospital. She was born January 16, 1930, in Brewer, the daughter of Andrew F. and Florence (Higgins) Mann.
Kay was married to the love of her life Eugene "Gene" Boynton on June 3, 1950, until he passed away in October 2013. Kay and Gene enjoyed 64 wonderful years together full of love, family and friendships. Kay graduated from Brewer High School in the class of 1948. She was employed at Rines and Company for several years in her early days. Kay and her husband, Gene, were the owners and operators of the Johnson Monumental Company for many years. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, served with the Altar Rosary Society for many years and taught CCD for several years. Kay volunteered for 55 years at the Ward 2 polls for the Democratic Party. She enjoyed crocheting and needlepoint and created many beautiful gifts for her family and friends with her talent. But, most of all, shopping was her favorite hobby in the world and she was an incredibly beautiful stylish woman! She also was an avid candlepin bowler participating in leagues and competing in and out of state. You could find her weekday mornings at Bangor/Brewer Bowling Lanes where she made many friends and memories for more than 50 years. Kay loved her family and friends with all her heart and her request is that rather than mourn her, you remember her by living each day loving one another; and find happiness in your lives.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Barrows and husband, Jack, of Hampden; grandchildren, Daniel Coffin and wife, Shauna, of Bangor, Kaitlin Coffin and significant other, Harjaben Harris, of Roxbury, MA, and Nicholas Coffin and wife, Emily, of Brewer; great-grandchildren, Max Coffin of Brewer, and Victor Coffin of Bangor; loving feline companion, Nevaeh; a sister-in-law, Gloria Perkins; a cousin, Kathy Mann; second cousins; and several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews; and many dear friends "you know who you are." In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gene, in 2013; brother-in-law, James Boynton; and brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and June Starrett.
A special thank you goes out to Nicole Clewley, her daughter, Andraya and their dog, Snuffy, who spent countless hours caring for and keeping Kay laughing and entertained over the last two and a half years. A special thank you goes out to Lynn Mitchell Wood who also spent many hours caring for and developing a special bond with Kay. In addition, many thanks to Solstice Senior Living where she made many friends for 8 years and to the staff at Winterberry Heights who provided loving care over this past year.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 531 North Main Street, Brewer, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Rooms of the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer, following the interment.
