Howard Augherton - Class Of 1954

Howard James Augherton Jr., 73, died July 4, 2009, at Maine Veterans' Home, Bangor. He was born July 18, 1935, in Hermon, son of Howard James and Mary E. (Simmons) Augherton. Bud was a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 1954, where he excelled in basketball. He served in the U.S. Army, 1956-1959, and was stationed in Germany where he was a member of the base basketball team. He had been formerly employed as a sales representative in the plumbing and heating business for RB Dunning, FW Webb and retired from Webber Oil. Bud will be remembered as an avid sports enthusiast; he enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sports activities, the Boston Red Sox, the Patriots, the Celtics, meeting his friends at Captain Nick's, and cookouts with his family and friends. He was a member of BPO Lodge of Elks No. 244 of Bangor. Surviving are nine children, Mark Augherton, Randy Elliston, Krista Potter, Lisa McHugh, Susan Mann, Diane Morse, Darwin "Wes" Morse, Steven Morse and Beth Farrell; 16 grandchildren, Jessica, Cody, Nicholas, Eric, Jason, Ryan, Kaleb, Luke, Matthew, Justin, Michael, Kara-Beth, Gary, Jackie, Virginia and Matthew; one sister, Sally Taylor; nieces, nephews; and a special lifelong friend, Charlie Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Joan Dumont and Patricia "Pat" Varney.
