Lillian Estes (Goodwin) - Class Of 1943

LILLIAN ‘DOLLY’ ESTES GOODWIN HARRISONBURG, Va. – Lill-ian “Dolly” Estes Goodwin died peacefully Aug. 14, 2007, at Oak Lea Nursing Home, Har-risonburg, Va. She was born Feb. 6, 1925, in East Holden. She was married to Donald L. Goodwin, Sept. 4, 1942, in Brewer. Their love and devotion for each other during their long life together was enhanced by their family and by their valued friendships from childhood; from many summers at their cottage in Maine on Lucerne Lake; from her husband’s career span and her 20-year career at Woodward and Lothrop; and from their many years residing in Alexandria, Va. In recent years, their time together was enriched by the genuineness and caring from new friendships made at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. She was predeceased by her husband Jan. 6, 2007. Immediate family survivors are three children, Larry K. Goodwin and wife, Rosemarie Straight, of San Diego, Judith A. Miller and husband, John F. Miller III, of Harrisonburg, Va., Alan S. Goodwin and wife, Eleanor Goodwin, of Rockville, Md.; grandchildren, Laura G. Winkler and husband, John Winkler, of Fairfax, Va., Gregory Goodwin of Denver, Jason Miller of Richmond, Va., Jennifer Miller of Kennesaw, Ga.; Michael Goodwin and Christopher Goodwin, both of Rock-ville, Md.; and great-grandson, Hunter Miller of Richmond, Va. A private family burial for Donald and Lillian will be held at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be given to the Donald L. and Lillian E. Goodwin Endowed Scholarship for the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, Eastern Mennonite University, 1200 Park Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22802 or to the Donald L. and Lillian E. Goodwin Brewer High School Scholarship Fund, care of Maine Community Foundation, 245 Main St., Ellsworth, ME 04605. Lindsey Funeral Home, Harrisonburg, Va., is handling arrangements.
