Bangor - Dorothy E. (MacLeod) Rowe, of Brewer, died peacefully on July 8, 2021, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness surrounded by her family. Dot was born on July 2, 1924, in Bangor, one of six children of George and Mabel MacLeod. Dot spent nearly her entire life in Brewer, alongside her devoted husband of 71 years, Arthur "Farr" Rowe.
Dot and Farr spent many good times with their family and friends at their camp on Jacob Buck Pond, sailing on whatever vessel Farr may have had at the time, and trips aboard a schooner or two. Dot was very social and loved being with friends and family. She was at her happiest feeding whoever came through the door with some of her specialties, a few of them being yeast rolls, doughnuts and squares. Dot was also very proud of her Scottish heritage, which shone through her near daily bargain-hunting adventures.
After raising her children, Dot worked a few different jobs, including Stevens Studio, Leadbetter International and the Brewer City Clerk's Office. While working as a clerk there, one particularly-memorable event was the day her prospective husband appeared at her window to file his marriage intentions.
After Farr passed away in 2017, Dot enjoyed her time spent at the Ellen Leach Home connecting with old friends and making new ones. Each day she looked forward to the daily chats in the lobby with her friends and sorely missed them after moving on to Winterberry Heights.
Dot was predeceased by her husband, Farr; her siblings, Kenneth MacLeod, Clifford MacLeod, Donna Denney, Roger MacLeod and Myrtle Foy; several nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends that she dearly loved. She is survived by her two children, Jack Rowe of Holden and Margaret Jane McEwen of Gorham; her four grandchildren, Jane Perry and her husband, Joe, of Bangor, Matthew Rowe and his wife, Gayle, of Eddington, and Jane and Matthew's mother, Connie Rowe; Margo Peffer and her husband, Curt, of Gorham and Morgan McEwen and her wife, Amanda, of Kennebunkport; and five great-grandchildren, Grace Rowe, Joseph Perry, Kyle Perry, Cabot Arthur Peffer and Jocelyn Dorothy Peffer. Dot's family is very appreciative of the nursing staff of the CPCU at St. Joseph Hospital, who provided such wonderful compassionate care for Dot.
A memorial service for friends and relatives will be held noon Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State Street, Brewer. A reception will be immediately afterward and burial will take place at Pine Tree Cemetery in Eddington. Condolences and memories may be shared with her family on the tribute wall of kileyandfoley.com.
