

SCARBOROUGH - Elizabeth L. Chittick, 82, passed away, Saturday, April 4, 2015, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born in Bangor on Dec. 29, 1932, to William E. and Leona M. (King) Laffey. She grew up in Brewer and attended local schools. Elizabeth continued her education at Boston College, graduating with a degree in nursing. In 1954, she joined the Navy Nursing Corps, and continued to serve her country in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps for over 30 years, retiring in 1998 at the rank of Colonel. She also worked for over 20 years for the City of Portland as a Public Health Nurse, retiring as Director of Public Health. Elizabeth found great joy and relaxation working in her gardens and knitting. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, John Chittick. Surviving are her two sons, William Chittick of Daytona Beach, Fla., Peter Chittick and his wife, Stacy; and her granddaughter, Kaitlin of Virginia.
