Florence Black (McDonald) - Class Of 1959

SUNAPEE, N.H. – Florence I. (Black) McDonald, 62, of Brandywine Drive, Sunapee, died, Sunday, April 11, 2004, Easter, at her home after a long illness. She was born Aug. 31, 1941, in Brewer, the daughter of Elwell and Mildred (Hinckley) Black. She spent her early years in Brewer and graduated from Brewer High School. Mrs. McDonald was the activities director at the Convalescent Center in Brewer, and also at Calais Regional Hospital. She was an LPN at Hibbard’s Nursing Home in Dover Foxcroft, and was a nursing assistant at Eastern Maine Medical Center. While her husband was in the service for 21 years they traveled to Germany, Japan, California, Michigan, Maine, and Massachusetts. They served churches in Calais, and Guilford, and moved to Sunapee, N.H., eight years ago where her husband is currently serving the Methodist church. Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of Sunapee, N.H., the United Methodist Women, the Ladies Aid of Georges Mills, and the Soo-Nipi Quilters. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, sewing and making crafts for church fairs. Members of her family surviving include her husband of 44 years, the Rev. Wayne McDonald of Sunapee, N.H.; a daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Donald Stranger of Aurora, Colo.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott M. and Theresa McDonald of East Lyme, Conn., Christopher A. and Louann McDonald of Saco, and Robert E. and Margaret McDonald of Bolton, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, Erika and Samantha Stranger, Jennifer, Kristi, Kyle, Mitchell, Daniel, Cassie, Emily, Dilan and Brendan McDonald; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Rosalie Black of Orrington; an uncle and aunt, Robert and Betty Black of Orrington; nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 12 noon Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Community United Methodist Church, Sunapee, N.H, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Pagano, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Stafford Springs, Conn. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110 or to the Community United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 335, Sunapee, NH 03782. Chadwick Funeral Service of New London, N.H., is in charge of arrangements.
