BREWER - F. Thomas Largay Sr., 73, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 3, 2009, at his summer home on Toddy Pond. He was born April 7, 1936, in South Brewer, son of Fred and Lena (Sparks) Largay. Tom attended Brewer schools, graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, Class of 1955, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. Tom was employed by Footman's Dairy, Cushman's Bakery, Country Kitchen and Nissen Baking Co. before going into the grocery business by purchasing his store, Largay's Variety, Orrington. He went on to own and operate Belfast and Blue Hill IGAs. He retired in 1998, spending his time attending ballgames and functions of his large family, wintering at Summerhouse in Florida and summers at Toddy Pond, Blue Hill. He is survived by the "love of my life," Sue Ann (Kiah) Largay; 10 children, Tom Jr. and his wife, Bonny, Tim and his wife, Debbie, Terry Ames and her husband, Scott, Ted and his wife, Cindy, Tamara Davis and her husband, Jon, Tracey McHale and her husband, Rick, Tina Largay, Trixie Fucillo and her husband, Tony, Tonia Bastey and her husband, Bob, and Heather Gillen and her husband, Mike; 26 grandchildren, Aaron Largay, Jason Largay, Amy Nadeau, Jon Goodwin, Timmy Largay, Susan Bennett, Tracey Sparagis, Joseph Ames, Nicole Henderson, Kevin Ames, Bradley Largay, Jonathan Davis Jr., Jenny Davis, JT Davis, Katie Wilson, Rick McHale Jr., Chris McHale, Kayla Largay, Sarah Fucillo, David Fucillo, Robby Bastey, Kristen Bastey, Keith Nason, Andrew Gillen, Nathan Gillen and Aidan Gillen; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Largay and his wife, June, and Richard Largay and his wife, Mary; in-laws, Robert and Kuniko Kiah, Dennis and Betty Ellen Kiah, Barbara (Kiah) Wentworth and her husband, Al; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a special aunt, Eula Skypek of Connecticut. Family and friends may visit 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A service honoring Tom's life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Second Congregational Church, 607 South Main St., South Brewer, with the Rev. Richard Hyman, pastor, presiding.
