BREWER - BREWER - Lawrence V. Kiley Jr., 76, died Aug. 25, 2011. He was born July 13, 1935, in Bangor, son of Lawrence V. and Winifred M. (Martin) Kiley Sr. Lawrence was a lifelong resident of Brewer. He attended Brewer schools and graduated from Brewer High School in 1954 and the University of Maine in 1958, and spent some time in Quebec studying French. He always considered growing up in South Brewer an education in itself. He taught French and American history at Brewer High School from 1958 to the late 1960s, when he began a career in funeral service. He graduated from mortuary school in 1966 and worked in funeral service until the early 1990s. He was very grateful for the many trusting families he served throughout the years and was appreciative of their loyalty. He was known for his dry wit and philosophical thoughts, and always had an interesting perspective on life. Most importantly, he was a humble person, who was a source of support and care for his immediate and extended family. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary M. Kiley of Brewer; nieces and nephews, Sheila M. Townsend and her husband, Douglas, of Hampden, Joseph P. Kiley and his wife, Heather, of Holden, Michael and Jonathan Townsend, Bryant, Andrew and Sarah Kiley. He will also be missed by many cousins, including Murchie Martin and Barbara Johns, with whom he enjoyed many visits and many friends, especially his "lunch buddy," Betty Ellen Kiah. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Edward Kiley, in 1973; and his nephew, Michael Kiley, in 1995. Family and friends may visit 5-8 p.m. Monday at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Brewer, with the Rev. Roland Nadeau, celebrant. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bangor. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Rothmund-Thomson Syndrome Foundation, 4307 Woodward Court, Chantilly, VA 20151 or online at www.RTSplace.org, in honor of Lawrence's great-nephew, Michael Townsend.
