Brewer - Dorothy "Betty" Elizabeth Igoe died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Bangor, Maine, on February 24, 1937, to Ralph E. Patterson Sr. and Mae Louise (Hicks) Patterson.
Dorothy graduated from Brewer High School in 1955. Following graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, William F. Igoe, who predeceased her seven years ago. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before his death in 2016.
Betty was devoted to her family, including her five children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband as well as her sister, Mary (Patterson) Pelletier. She is survived by her brother, Ralph "Pat" Patterson Jr.; children, Debbie Igoe Bruns and her husband, Bud Bruns, of Fort Myers, FL, William Igoe Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Wilton, ME, Jeff Igoe of Brewer, Karen Milbrath and her husband, Steve, of Eden Prairie, MN, and Scott Igoe and his wife, Dawn, of Altoona, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew, James, Nathan, Katie, Maddie, Dalton, Delaney, and Dylan; and her great-grandchildren, Hayleigh, Jace, and Leif; as well as many nieces and nephews
Betty also loved her church family at West Hampden Baptist Church. Music was a passion of hers, and she sang in the choir her whole life. She also loved to work, and served as Executive Director of the Brewer Housing Authority for 26 years. She was the Founding Executive Director of the Ellen M. Leach Memorial Home, where she "retired" to work as the Executive Director for another five years.
While not an avid sports fan, she loved Tom Brady and could often be found watching his live games, regardless of the team, as well as reruns of his greatest games.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with Pastor Michael Lynn of the West Hampden Baptist Church officiating. The family invites relatives and friends for a joyful celebration at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, immediately following the service Wednesday.
