BREWER - Myrna Louise McEwen, 76, died peacefully Jan. 6, 2008, surrounded by her loving family, at a Bangor hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Brewer, the daughter of Forrest W. and Evangeline B. (Cusack) Footman. Myrna graduated from Brewer High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a longtime member of Order of Eastern Star and First Congregational Church of Brewer. Myrna was the first president of the Jaycee Wives of Brewer and was active in Brewer Sports Boosters for 16 years. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Joseph's Hospital later in her life. Myrna made wonderful quilts and enjoyed cross-stitching. She was a loving and devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend and will be sadly missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Russell O. McEwen of Holden; sons, Mark McEwen and wife, Kimberly, of Naples, Fla., Kevin McEwen and wife, Cindy, of Brewer, Rod McEwen and wife, Robin, of Dover, N.H., and Richard McEwen and wife, Jayne, of Brewer; a brother, H. Rodney Footman of Brewer; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Mark Jr. and wife, Jill, Cara, Meredith, Rachel, Keith, R. Patrick, Chelsea McEwen and Siobhan McCarthy, many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a service of remembrance will also be held noon Thursday, Jan. 10. Interment will be in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
