BREWER - Truman Leon Knights Jr., 89, went home to be with the Lord, July 15, 2012, at a Brewer health care facility. He was born July 25, 1922, in Lincoln, son of Truman Leon Knights Sr. and Ettia (Farrington) Knights. Truman graduated from Brewer High School, class of 1943 where he was a member of the band and played the trumpet. He also played in the Shrine Band and 195th Army Band. Truman was employed at Bangor Roofing and Sheet Metal, and Eastern Fine Paper Corp. He retired from Pendleton Street School after serving as janitor for 21 years. Truman was known for his hard work ethic and integrity. As a hobby after retirement, he repaired lawn mowers. Truman was a 65-year member of Columbia Street Baptist Church; member of the Danforth class dart ball league; and served as an usher for 60 years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Maxine Trask; and daughter, Judith Ann Knights. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Olive (Waye) Knights; daughter, Marjorie; son, David T. Knights; many nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Carolyn, who shared the same birthday as Truman. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Columbia Street Baptist Church, 63 Columbia St., Bangor, with Pastor Scott McPhedran, officiating.
