BREWER and BANGOR - Arthur Delmont Upton, 70, died peacefully Aug. 22, 2008, at his residence. He was born March 6, 1938, in Brewer, the son of Kenneth and Dorothy (Hodgdon) Upton. Arthur graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1956. He worked in his early years for Pepsi and Harris Bread, and later managed a campground and worked 16 years in the custodial department with the Brewer school system. Arthur was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church and Eagles Club. He enjoyed using his hands woodworking, fishing and dancing. There are many fond memories of the various cruises he took with family and friends. He spent the past five winters in Florida with his wife. More than anything his family was his life and he loved time spent with his adoring grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Carlene (Treadwell) Upton; a son, Michael Upton and wife, Tammy, of Monroe, N.H.; two daughters, Michelle DeFilipp and husband, Barry, of Brewer and Tina Trainor and husband, John, of Glenburn; a sister, Judie Miller and husband, Stanley, of Bangor; a brother, Roger Upton of Bangor; eight grandchildren, Sandra, Sarah, Adam, Dominique, Nicholas, Jasmine, Allison and Gabriel; a sister-in-law, Theresa Schlick and husband, Joseph, of Brewer; several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call 4-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, 425 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Timothy Nadeau, celebrant. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the committal.
