BREWER and HOLDEN - Thelma A. (Weston) Sweet, 81, wife of the late John M. Sweet Jr., went to be with the Lord March 25, 2011, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Brewer, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys (Williamson) Weston. Thelma graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1948. She was employed for many years as a cook at Holden Elementary School, substitute postmaster of the U.S. Postal Service, Holden, ballot clerk and deputy clerk at Holden Town Office. Thelma was one of the original members of the Holden Women's Fire Auxiliary and ambulance attendant for Holden. The Sweet family name has been long standing in Holden for many years in all phases of town business, and Thelma was proud to be a member of that family. She is survived by her only daughter, Bonita "Bonnie" and her husband, John Clark, of Holden; two special grandsons, Michael Clark and his wife, Tiphanie, of Salt Lake City and Jeffrey Clark and his wife, Erica, of Herriman, Utah; three special great-grandchildren, Dustin and Spencer Clark of Salt Lake City and Michaela Hanscom of Moneta, Va.; and 11 special nieces and nephews. Thelma leaves many wonderful friends who were like a second family to her, special friend, the Rev. Canon Ian Bockus of Prospect and Penny Prater and son, Donald, of Holden. In addition to her parents and husband of 49 years, she was predeceased by one sister, Beatrice D. Rice; and in-laws, J. Manley and Hilda Sweet. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Brookings-Smith, Brewer Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, with the Rev. Canon Ian Bockus, CSSS, officiating. Spring interment will be at Harts Corner Cemetery, Holden. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, immediately after the service.
