Alton L. Hadley - Class Of 1937

EDDINGTON - Alton L. Hadley Jr., 88, died Dec. 13, 2008, at a Gorham health care facility. He was born March 5, 1920, in Brewer, the son of Alton L. Sr. and Myrtle (Cowing) Hadley. Alton graduated from Brewer High School in 1937 and lived most of his life in Eddington. He worked at Stiar Textile Mill, Orono, where he retired as superintendent after 50 years. Alton was a 50-year member of Ralph Pollard Lodge No. 217 AF & AM of Orrington. He is survived by his two sons, Alton L. Hadley III and wife, Linda, of Scarborough and Richard H. Hadley and wife, Nina, of St. Cloud, Fla.; a brother, Harold C. Hadley of Citrus Heights, Calif.; a sister, Freda M. Vanidestine of Bangor; seven grandchildren, Renee MacDonald and husband, Vincent, of Whitman, Mass., Rhonda Hadley and Thomas Higgins of Milford, Joan Smith of Brewer, Christopher Hadley and wife, Theresa, of Londonderry, N.H., Jennifer Chase and husband, Derek, of Portland, Michael Hadley and wife, Ginette, of Portland and Sean Hadley and wife, Melissa, of Poland; as well as six great-grandchildren. Alton was predeceased by his wife, Rena (Doughty) Hadley; a grandson, Richard H. Hadley Jr.; a sister, Madge Stackpole; and brothers, Edwin and Amos Hadley. Committal services at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, will be announced in the spring. A service of Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
