Julia Sleeper (Rand) - Class Of 1937

BREWER - Julia E. Rand, 90, passed away March 27, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born Sept. 12, 1919, in Milford, the daughter of Roy and Edith (Longley) Sleeper. Julia graduated from Brewer High School in 1937, where she and her close friends formed "Not A He Club" and have stayed in touch all these years. She was a lifelong member of First Congregational Church of Brewer, where she was involved in many of the church's activities. She was a loving selfless individual. Her focus was always on her family and friends. She was a very special person who will be greatly missed. Julia is survived by her husband of 64 years, Wilbur Rand of Brewer; three sons and their wives, Gordon Rand and Ruth Ann of Arizona, Steve Rand and Christine of Illinois and Brian Rand and Mary of Falmouth; two daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Michael McDonough of Idaho and Carol and Lenny Peters of Bangor; two daughters-in-law, Jean Rich of Harpswell and Sue Rand of Washington; 17 grandchildren, Vicki, David, Brenda, Colleen, Donovan, Jason, Scott, Mackenzie, Kristina, Kate, Luke, Nathan, Athena, Daniel, Benjamin, Jonathan and Michelle; nine great-grandchildren, many wonderful, nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Wilbur Rand Jr.; and daughter, Sandra Adams. The family thanks all the wonderful people from Hospice of Eastern Maine for their care and concern. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at First Congregational Church of Brewer with the Rev. Grace Bartlett, pastor, officiating. Interment will be later this spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
