BREWER and HARRINGTON Robert L. Campbell Sr., 90, husband of the late Elaine F. (MacDonald) Campbell, 79, died peacefully Aug. 7, 2008, with his family at his side, at the home that he built in Brewer. He was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Prince Edward Island, Canada, the son of James E. and Grace (Tanner) Campbell. Robert was a 1936 graduate of Brewer High School, where he played football. During his early years, he was a boxer becoming the undefeated New England Light Weight Champion in 1937. He worked as a pipefitter, welder and welding instructor and worked for Cramp Shipyard, Philadelphia, during World War II. Robert owned the Gulf Service Station, Wilson Street, Brewer, before he eventually moved to Harrington, where he lived and developed a large blueberry growing operation. His enjoyment and love was farming, gardening and spending time with all of his grandchildren. Surviving are four grandchildren, Michael Campbell and his wife, Katherine, of Brewer, Laurie Jewell and her husband, John, of Brewer, Scott Campbell of New Hampshire, and Mark Campbell of Bangor; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda, Sarah, Jennifer, Michael, Joel, Brittney and Brandon; one sister, Phyllis Beaulieu of Green Lake; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two children, Richard P. and Robert L. Campbell Jr.; two grandchildren, Diane Crawford and Colleen Campbell; three sisters and three brothers. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, with the Rev. Timothy J.
