Brewer - Rowena M. Varney, 97, passed away peacefully October 28, 2022. She was born February 21, 1925, in Brewer, the daughter of Leroy Marsh and Austina (Nichols) Marsh.
Rowena was born and raised on the Green Point road in Brewer, the 6th out of 8 children. She graduated Brewer High School, class of 1942. She was a home maker and a mother of two children, and she was always busy helping her kids. She liked sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles and was a YMCA swimmer for 40 years.
She is survived by her two children, Karen Varney and her husband, Tom O'Neal, and Vicki Varney and her husband, John Schlicher; and her grandchildren, Joseph and his wife, Alexis Shaw, and Thomas Shaw. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alva Varney, who she spent 54 years with before he passed.
