BREWER - Ruth Brown (Titcomb) Currier, 93, wife of the late Stuart L. Currier, died Feb. 25, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Brewer, the daughter of Vernon Emery and Helen Maria (Lord) Titcomb. Ruth was a 1933 graduate of Brewer High School and completed her education at Gilman Commercial School, enabling her to be clerk, stenographer and typist. She worked 20 years for the U.S. Army with the Department of Defense in Bangor and was the first woman to work at Dow Air Force Base. She later worked at the University of Maine, Orono, in the forestry department, where she met her future husband, Stuart Currier. Ruth was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Brewer, General Society of Mayflower Descendants, Daughters of the American Revolution and founder of Bangor Brewer Christian Women's Club in 1949. She was known for her beautiful flower garden, kindnesses to neighbors and keeping her street clean. Surviving are two children, Cyrus Richardson Currier III and his wife, Dr. Sally Currier, of Bangor and Plymouth, and Helen Elizabeth Currier Campbell and her husband, the Rev. Ernie Campbell, of Brewer and Pittsfield; three grandchildren, Dr. Karen Suzanne Fancher and her husband, Brian, of Ellsworth, Kristi Lynn Currier and her husband, Jason Stewart, of Westbrook, and Heather Elizabeth Campbell of Albuquerque, N.M.; one stepgranddaughter, Dr. Andrea Brown and her husband, Michael Cukan, of New Hampshire; and one brother, Ellwood Arthur Titcomb and his wife, Sandy, of Florida and Owls Head. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, parents; three sisters, Gladys Titcomb MacLeod, Serena Southard Titcomb Smiley and Inez Evelyn Titcomb; and by one brother, Vernon Emery Titcomb Jr. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 2, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A service in honor of Ruth's life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at First United Methodist Church, Brewer, with the Rev. Dr. George E. Curtis III, pastor, presiding. Spring committal will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. A time of fellowship will be held immediately afterward in the church center.
