Wilson, NC - Our mother, Frances Arline Prouty (nee Hodgins), 94, of Veazie, Maine, passed away on March 16, 2024, in Wilson, NC, after a brief illness. She was born on July 14, 1929, in Brewer, ME, the youngest of 8 children to Mary Elizabeth (Hartery) and Lawrence Stanley Hodgins.
In 1948 she married Norman Prouty Jr. and moved to Veazie where they lived and raised 6 children, 5 boys and 1 daughter. For 30 summers she packed up the kids and headed to their "cottages" on Springy Pond and later on Beech Hill Pond, which she and her family greatly enjoyed. In later years, her time was split between Maine and Florida. Her last 12 years in Florida were her comfort and joy. She made friends easily with her welcoming smile and positive attitude, and everyone loved her. Mom was an avid card player and enjoyed playing with friends in Maine, Florida, and most recently in North Carolina.
She is survived by her 6 children; sons, Norman (Wanda) of Hampden, Thomas (Joan) of Westbrook, Randy (Pat) of Wilson, NC, Tim (Anna Maria) of Portland, Richard of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Joanna of Lake George, NY; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was a loving and caring Mother, Nanie, and friend and she will be greatly missed by all.
A private family service to honor Mom's life will be held on July 13 at the Veazie Cemetery.
