Edward Richard Pellon, 89, passed peacefully August 10, 2024, at his home. He was born March 5, 1935, in Bangor, to the late Vincent and Mae (Otis) Pellon.
He was a 1952 graduate of Brewer High School, and went on to serve a five-year apprenticeship program in mechanical piping. Serving as piping supervisor on many construction projects. He had been the owner of E. Pellon Company and general partner and developer of elderly housing projects and other properties in the Machias area.
He served in the 123st Legislature and served on the Business, Research and Economic Development Committee. Edward was a very effective legislator, he debated in favor of legislation on the floor of the Maine House on several occasions. Edward was respected by all his legislator colleagues from both sides of the aisle. Edward's compassion was for Washington County and especially the town of Machias. He served one legislative term of 2 years and his campaign was ran by his good friend, Edward Dugay. He had also been very active in community affairs serving on the Machias Planning Board, Budget Committee, and many terms on the Board of Selectmen.
In his youth, he worked pumping gas for his uncle, Raymond Fields, at Ray's Service Center in Brewer. It was here his uncle introduced him to Free Masonry, and influenced his dedication to his 63-year Masonic and Shrine affiliations. He was a 63-member of Howard Lodge #69 A.F. & A.M. in Winterport, Washington Royal Arch Chapter #16 in Machias, Scottish Rites Valley of Bangor, and Maine Consistory Valley of Portland. On January 11, 1974, he joined Anah Shrine, to later proudly serve as Potentate in 1998. In 1998 he also became an associate member of Luxor Shrine, as well as a courtesy member of Mazol Shrine. He was an Emeritus Representative from Anah to Imperial Shrine. He is survived by two granddaughters, Kristin Lee and her fiance, Matthew Cotton, and their children, Liliana Cotton, Ryker Cotton and Blakely Cotton, and Rebecca Lee; stepson, Gary Magee and wife, Kathy; daughters, Lynn Jackson and Barbara Little and their families; a brother, Eugene Vincent Pellon and his wife, Diane; a sister, Virginia Nadine Pellon-Parish; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in 2018 by his beloved wife of 53 years, Esther (Sprague) Pellon; a daughter, Holly Pellon, in May 2024; a brother, Everett Vincent Pellon; and a sister, Irene Martin.
Edward Pellon was a very proud, strong, caring man with many accomplishments, many with his loving wife, Esther, by his side. Edward was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather and he was a big family man, and with his wife, Esther, together they created an amazing, beautiful family that they loved dearly. Through thick and thin he did everything for his family and always made sure you knew he was there and that you would never be alone or forgotten but also made sure to let you know with the famous finger point when you needed to smarten up and do better. He loved his daughter, Holly, beyond words and always will. Edward and Esther had a big part in the raising of his granddaughters, Kristin and Rebecca, and they always made sure no matter the distance or what was going on they would be there and support them. His great-grandchildren, Liliana, Ryker and Blakely, were the absolute joys of his life, and he would light up the moment he saw them and show a side that didn't come out all that often, but we knew existed only for them. Edward spent a lot of time at his and Esther's camp on Bog Lake, whether it be a gathering with friends or just taking the kids tubing, skiing and knee boarding around the lake. You were sure to see Edward riding around town checking on all his businesses, going to town meetings, Bluebird for dinner with his good friend, Bill Sternbergh, every Thursday, and of course his every week Friday night prime rib dinner at Helen's, where he and Esther went for many years, and they always had his booth ready for him. Edward enjoyed traveling with his wife, Esther, they traveled to many places together and even took the kids with them on occasion, especially when they would go in the camper on trips with the Anah Kampers. Edward was a man that always held the ground for everyone else and at a time when he needed help to do it his granddaughter, Kristin, was his saving grace, and he was so proud of her for all that she did for him. Edward had a big impact on many people's lives and a big impact on this community in many ways and will be missed beyond words. We love you forever and always.
