Luther Mason Smith ObituaryLuther Mason Smith, 96, passed away November 20, 2019 at Blaire House in Milford, MA. He was born August 21, 1923, in Bangor, the son of Forrest and Gertrude (Baker) Smith.

Luther graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1941. Following graduation, he served as an Aviation Metalsmith in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 and 1950-52. After the war he married Helen Alexander of Blaine in 1949.

Luther was a loyal member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer where he was baptized in 1955 and remained an active member for over 50 years. He worked at Bangor Hydro Electric Co and was also a volunteer firefighter for the city of Brewer. He spent his time working on his model trains and enjoying Western movies. He had a passion for photography, some of his favorites places were Beech Hill Pond, Trenton, Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park. He loved all sports but most of all football and cheering for the New England Patriots.

In addition to his parents, Luther was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Helen (Alexander) Smith; and two brothers, Winslow Smith and Lawrence Smith. He is survived by his sons, David Smith and wife, Sophia (Wu) Smith of Hopedale, MA, Douglas Smith and wife Carol (Lambert) Smith of Cumberland Center; five grandchildren, Christine Smith of Portland, Nathan Smith and wife, Christine of Alpharetta, GA, Stephen Smith and wife, Teresa of Cumberland Center, Amanda (Smith) Keefe of Hopedale, MA, Andrea (Smith) Brown and husband, Nicholas of Hopedale, MA; nine great-grandchildren, Victoria and James Smith, Oliver and Josiah Smith, Avery, Ayla, and Michael Keefe, Colton and Rory Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 10-11 a.m., Tuesday November 26, 2019 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. with Rev. Dan Russell, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Brewer, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
