Selden Blethen - Class Of 1946

Selden "Selly" Watson Blethen ObituaryEllsworth, Maine - Selden Blethen, 93, passed away peacefully at his home on March 11, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 7, 1928, in Old Town, Maine, to Harold and Alice Blethen.

Selden, known to all as "Selly," graduated from Brewer High School, class of '46. He entered the Navy and served from 1946-1948. Upon return he attended the University of Maine. In 1950 he married the love of his life, Marilyn Robbins, who was his life companion. He was a brakeman on the Bangor and Aroostak Railroad, then joined the Lane Construction Corp. where he retired after 39 years. Selly was, above all, a good man. He was a master wood worker, exemplary lawn mower, and master of fixing things which he passed along to his sons. He may be remembered by some as a valet parking attendant at Ellsworth Hospital where he volunteered for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years; three children, Scott Blethen and wife, Susan, Maureen Dunning and husband, Ward, and Gregg Blethen; grandchildren, Jessica Sheppard and husband, Travis, Matt Dunning and wife, Sarah, and Matthew A. Blethen; and great-grandchildren, Tobyn, Kyle, Cooper, Bryan, Ryleigh-Jo and Kyrie. He also leaves behind many extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his daughters-in-law, Jane and Dawn; and his siblings, Robert, Jane and Eugene.

A graveside service will be planned at a later date. Gifts in Selly's memory can be sent to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital for their Building on a Promise Capital Campaign, P.O. Box 796 Ellsworth, ME 04605.
