Orono - Mary Ellen (Constantine) Ryan passed away on August 25, 2016, at the age of 85. She was born March 11, 1931, in Calais, and moved to Brewer as a young child. Mary graduated from Brewer High School in 1949 and went to work as a bank teller/assistant in Bangor. She married her high school sweetheart, William G. Ryan (deceased) in 1954. They moved to Orono to build their home and family.
Over the years, Mary was a member of Eastern Maine Star, Kiwanis, the Church of Universal Fellowship, and various church and social groups. Mary volunteered with the Orono AFS Chapter, the Ronald McDonald House, the Collins Center for the Arts, Meals on Wheels, the Orono Health Association, and she was the perfect Mrs. Claus for the Orono Rec Department's annual children's Christmas party. Mary loved to cross-stitch, sew, travel, and make her famous lemon bread.
Mary is survived by the second love of her life, Wayne Hamilton of Orono; daughter, Cathy Ryan and companion, Dale Shirland, of Old Town; daughter, Diane Landean of Orono; son, Walter Ryan and wife, Sarah, of Bangor; grandchildren, Nicholas St. Louis and wife, Jenny, Christopher St. Louis, Megan Landean, Zachary Landean, Andrya Ryan and Steven Carrow; great-grandchildren, Dominique, Konner, Matthew and Katelyn St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of Universal Fellowship, 82 Main St., Orono, on Tuesday, August 30, at 2 p.m. Donations may be made in memory of Mary Ryan to either Orono-Old Town Kiwanis, P.O. Box 515, Orono, ME 04473 or Orono Health Association, 10 Birch Street, Orono, Maine 04473.
