In Memory

Kerry Roberts (Melnick)

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
I feel you everywhere I go
I see your smile, I see your face
I hear you laughin' in the rain
Still can't believe you're gone.

It ain't fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I been through
Just knowin' no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder
Who you'd be today.

Would you see the world, would you chase your dreams
Settle down with a family
I wonder what would you name your babies
Somedays the sky's so blue
I feel like I can talk to you
And I know it might sound crazy.

It ain't fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I been through
Just knowin' no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder
Who you'd be today.

Today, today, today
Today, today, today.

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
The only thing that gives me hope
Is I know I'll see you again some day
Someday, someday...

My fondest memories of Kerry are band camp. Kerry was the captain of our flag corps...and a good one. We shared tears from exhauston when Mrs. Ritz kept pushing us at camp. We laughed at the most stupid things that we never really knew what we were laughing at. Even as teens, Kerry got everyone to work together as a team, and we all know how hard that is when you put a roomful of women together! Kerry was a good person, leader and friend to everyone and her spirit lives on in all of us.

I recently spoke to Kerry's mom about how nice and kind a person Kerry was. Her mom was touched that we still remember her. I told her we always will.

Kerry's death still haunts me. To be taken from your young child and for her to never have known you is unthinkable. She so loved her daughter and cherished being a mother. Kerry had a great love for animals and was breeding I do believe Shelties.

Kerry & I began our school years together back in kindergarten at Lansing. She was one of the quite girls, but had a heart of gold. I remember we started a 4-H club and her mom (Mary Ann) was our leader. I was so jealous over her talent as a seamstress when I couldn't even thread a needle. Kerry's sewing talent was on display at the Belmont County Fair that year.

May we always remember Kerry as a bright star in heaven shining down on all of us!

Beautiful. The song was so fitting. I didn't know Kerry that well, but she was part of "us" the Class of '77, and that makes her part of our family. How touching to have friends that makes her memory still live on through words, songs, etc. I remember her as a quiet girl, but always smiling. Beautiful song and tribute for a beautiful girl.
