I greduated from Uconn's Integrated Bachelor's/Masters Program in Education in 1994. I substitute taught for a year and taught adult ed for 4 years. I also began working for a subsidiary of Bristol Hospital in 1994 in Human Resources, and in 1998 moved over to Bristol Hospital, working in HR until 2002. After my son was born I dropped to part time and began working at the Parent and Child Center, Bristol Hospital's child abuse prevention/family support center. During that time, we grew our program from a 2-person office in a tiny room with one shared phone, to our new offices in the center of Bristol with a total of 10 staff members. I'm very proud of my role in helping to make that happen.

in my personal life, I met my husband in 1993, and we were married in July 1995. In addition to our 2 children, we have 2 dogs (both rescues), a cat, and varying numbers of fish depending on whether or not I remember to change the filters in the tank. I'm apparently making up for growing up without pets.

I enjoy reading and writing, and have published a few short articles. My dream is to eventually publish a children's book, and am generally working on several ideas at a time. I also do some grant writing on a freelance basis on the side.

School Story

My favorite teacher was our senior year English teacher, whose name I am blanking on, but oddly, I remember the name she published her book under, which was Spring Herman. It was my first experience with a writers workshop, and my first time getting really positive peer feedback on my writing. Mr. Bocchini, on the other hand, completely terrified me as a writer ("Never write a sentence you couldn't diagram". . . ugghh.)

Hands down, my scariest teacher award goes to Soeur Judith, who turned me into a quivering, heart-pounding blob of jelly if she so much as glanced in my direction with the possible thought of calling on me. I got a stern "Viens ici, mademoiselle" from her once and just sat rooted in my chair, frantically hoping that Alex Sinclair in the seat behind me would protect me from whatever nefarious plans she had for me.
