Mike Holmes

Attended Northeastern State University and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology in 1975. Worked for a year and then returned to NSU and completed my M.Ed. in Jr. College Teaching/Psychology. Married Sally in 1978. Taught for 3 years at North Arkansas Community in Harrison, Arkansas. Daughters Angie and Lindsay were born in Harrison. Left to pursue my Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology/Cognitive Processes at Oklahoma State University. Completed my Ph.D. and taught for 2 years at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. Decided to do something different with my life and entered the Navy. Following training in Pensacola, Florida (where I learned to fly a helicopter) I was designated an Aerospace Experimental Psychologist. For the next 21 years I worked in the areas of human factors engineering/weapon systems design, research & development for aircrew selection & sustained operations, training and simulators, program management, distributed learning, and during my last 3 years in the Navy I helped to create and stand up a new command, U.S. Navy Human Performance Center where I learned a lot about organizational development/performance. I retired at the rank of Captain in 2007 and then accepted a position as Chief Academic Officer and Dean of Faculty at Georgia Military College (GMC)--in Milledgeville, Georgia. GMC is a two-year liberal arts college with over 16,000 students---about 250 of those are ROTC cadets, hence the name.
I retired June 30, 2021 and moved to Pensacola, Florida. All three daughters ended up migrating to Pensacola, so it was a no-brainer as to where Sally and I would retire. Still seems strange being retired. Not sure what's next--we'll see.
