Chuck and I grew up together on the southeast section of Brookfield. He lived on Webster Avenue about four blocks away from Shady Nook and another four blocks from my house on Harvey Ave. Chuck and I were cousins.
Funny to think back; we really didnt see each other much outside of school except at family functions or funerals. I knew his wife and met his kids at these functions, but they were not as often as I would have liked. In Jr high and high school, now that I think back, I dont think we had even one single class together.
Chuck was always cool, did pretty well in school, and became a cop. I was proud of that. He worked himself up the ladder and was very successful in his career. I was shocked when he died of stomach cancer. At that time there was really only one person in the family who had cancer. I felt bad for his family and especially his Mom( my Aunt Alice.)
As it stands, yes we were cousins, got along real well, but yet life has a way of stealing time. My regret is not telling him I loved him and keeping in touch with him more often. Oh, I am sure he probably knew, but I have come to realize one must take the time to say and do things while you have the chances.
Chuck will always be remembered as the cool dude, and a respected member of my family.
I met my husband, Andy and his friend Chuck in August of 1967 at Marty Zivko's in Hartford. We had a lot of good times together. He was the best man at our wedding in June of 1968. I will never forget:
.... his old black car, "Charlotte". Charlotte took us lots of places. One night we were driving the backroads in Northern WI in that old black car. When it was daylight, we drove those same roads. OMG! We were driving on the edge of a cliff!
... for his funeral luncheon, he requested pizza and beer!
