Hi everyone.  We have storms here in Santa Cruz sometimes, but nothing like those in Buffalo.  But we do have weather all the time.  There are a lot of weird things in Santa Cruz.  In fact, one of the city's mottos is "Keep Santa Cruz Weird."

It's nice to be home.

Monte,

Hey it would be nice to see you too, but not in Buffalo.  I might go back if threatened with death, but I'd have to ask, "How soon?".  I dropped out of communicating with you when you told me I was too busy to see you much after your mother died.  All this time, I thought you were thrown out of your house in the Projects.  I thought that we had lost touch and that I did not know where to find you.  Then you said different.  I checked a old photo album, and there you were with me in our senior year.  It shook my belief in my memory and in my reality.

Then I thought about what Dave Knapp said about he and I being best friends in high school.  I denied it, and said we were casual friends.  But now I doubt many of my memories of my high school experiences.

So, anyway, How are you and what are you up to?

Let's chat on my or your site and not bore all our fellow forum posters.

I don't know if anyone will remember me but I was there, although I was quiet.  I married Ralph Sullivan right out of high school.  We just passed our 54th anniversary.  We have had a wonderful life. But...unfortunately I have not kept up with old friends as we moved out of the area early on.

Happy Birthday (a few weeks early) to Barb Gasbarrini

Barb,  I'm not sure you'll remember me but we had a class together and for the life of me I can't remember which one.  Yes, you were the quiet one in the class and yet I always thought of you as friendly and social.  It turns out we're 'almost' neighbors - I'm in Daytona Beach.  Just a hop, skip and a jump away.  You might also remember John Burniston from our fun days in KWHS, he lives about 5 miles from me in Ormond Beach.  We try to get together every few weeks for a bite and catch up on whats new.  It would be fun to meet sometime for lunch and chat a bit.  All's well on this side of the state and I hope you're enjoying the holidays and will have a very happy and healthy New Year and a very Happy Birthday.  Take care - Fred

Hi all..........It might be nice to share stories of the "adventure" we all find ourselves participating in. We (my wife Dianne and I) have been voluntarily sheltering-in-place in the SF Bay Area since last Thursday. This morning it became mandatory for all 7M of us.

It's interesting that all the "markers" in my life no longer exist. No classes, no meetings, no social gatherings, and it's a bit disorienting. Tuesday feels exactly like Sunday which feels exactly like Friday....... The only distinguishing marker is the Sunday paper, which is bigger and different from the rest of the week. Our weather is starting to warm up, and it's going to be more difficult when spring breaks out.

Since retirement, I have been painting (watercolor), so this is the perfect opportunity for me, and a way to pass the days (which seem longer now). I don't think the physical hardships of confinement will be difficult, although the mental part might be a little more difficult to digest. I already miss my grandkids (they live only 5 miles away), but those of you with grandkids in another town are going to feel little sympathy for me. The big test is to keep our marriage together long enought to celebrate our 50th Anniversary in August. We've haven't been together 24/7 in a long time, but after 6 days of this, we're doing fine. We laugh every day - at ourselves, at others, and at the situation we're in. We're eating great - we both like to cook, and have plenty of time now. Food shopping is a challenge. Our local Whole Foods has no more delivery options available, and I really wish I had built the chicken coup I'd been thinking about.

Enough about me, I'd like to hear about you, and what's happening in your part of the world. Any interesting tips on how you'll pass your days would be helpful.

My best to you all - stay safe and healthy......Tom Lavin

PS.........Check out my new website (www.thomaslavin.photography) if you need something to fill your day

Howdy from Central Texas, y'all! Tom, your post yurned on my mind. I retired from AT&T in 2004 in St. Louis. Immediately you know I am missing baseball season. But after a disastrous attempt at developing some land, I landed in Pasadena, Texas, jail...as a jailer. After 5 years, I cut that short; most of my time was doing the fingerprinting, mug shots, tattoo verification with pictures, bio data etc. My 5th year I was getting sick every 3 weeks for a week at a time, due to exposure to all kinds of germs, viruses, etc, some from the poor ventilation system, more from fresh arrivals from the southern border.

These days, I wait patiently for the Bluebonnets to bloom, and I volunteer two days a week at the Bell County Museum in Belton, right near Temple. I have found this to be enjoyable, educational and entertaining. We have had a very light snowfall each of the last two winters, but thats as much as I want to see of that. One of our pastimes is to follow my great nephew, who is a professoonal bull rider. Right now it is very slow because all the rodeos are canceling. He hits one evry now and then, such as Xtreme Bull Riding.  And we follow his daughter (4 yrs) on her horses in New Mexico.

I get Fire Roasted Hatch Chilis from our local grecer, which makes the scrambled eggs or breakfast tacos just Magically Delicious. Renee & I both like to cook, and bake, and enjoy sharing.

I try to keep up with reading, but we have cut the cable and Renee likes to binge watch. At least I get plenty of real football...you know, the kind where they really use their feet.

Don't get cabin fever. If you are allowed to get out and walk around, take advantage of that. Our pool is closed now, bu we will still be getting out to get fresh air. Stay healthy and remember This too shall  pass!

Sometimes it is a good idea to get away from the depressing political and public health issues that saturate our daily lives.  Therefore, I thought I would share a bit of music for anyone interested,

Our classmate, Dick Kermode, had a remarkable career as a musician. Recently a friend of mine, Bob Marcin, from Canisius High told me he had some of Dick’s early recordings. Sometime in the late 1960’s, Dick was playing with the Milestones on River Road; Bob recorded some tunes from the session.  Here is a link to “Summertime” with Dick featured on his Hammond Organ.  I hope this link works!  Enjoy.
