Thanks Tom for passing this along. Sorry for you and the family, I remember Jack and his Dad, we were all active in an amature radio club thru Jr Hi and High school.  He was not only a strong athlete, but a good friend, and loyal teammate.

Tom, sorry to hear about Jack.  As part of the ham radio gang, I fondly remember all the times that Marty talked about in his post.  I believe that Jack and his dad got me started in ham radio which led to my career in electrical engineering.  Jack was a good friend.

Thanks Tom, so sorry to hear about Jack’s passing. I didn’t know him off the football field as much as on it. I knew him as a fierce competitor and one who earned his “All Conference” ranking. He went on to play college ball and I’m quite sure he was successful in life as well.

Tom, we are sorry to hear about Jack's passing. He was a great competitor on the field and a very kind person to many of us. You have our prayers for his family and his transition to our real home where there is no more worry, anxiety, unattended need, or pain.

Jack Fouts' family is having a private service for him at the Veterans Cemetary at the end of June. If anyone would like to send a card to his widow, please send me a private message and I'll provide it. Thanks everyone for your kind words. Tom

Classmates,

I downloaded an article from the Algora Blog Website on the history of Ukraine, from the Russian point of view. I found it very informative, since the civil war there is still being reported in the western and Russian news.

The Ukranian people (Russians & Slavs) have been under AZOV attack since the 2014 color revolution was initiated and sponsored by WEF global oligarcs, AZOV Nazis, and North American/EU governments. We need to: stop funding this civil war; remove our 40+ DTRA bio labs in Ukraine; and promote a cease fire to reestablish peaceful civil operations in eastern and southern (Crimea) Ukraine. I think we need to quit "poking the Bear" and talking inflamatory rhetoric about emotional nuclear and chemical military response options about the Russians. it is not in America's or the EU's/ UN's/ NATO's best interest for overall, global public safety. Feeding the war with billions of US dollars and weapon systems is not the answer. Our economy, society, and large cities are already in deep trouble.

We have enough problems here in America without inacting further poor foreign policy decisions and threatening global reactions, don't you think?

Update at 2:15 PM on 10 June 2022 - The article's pdf file did not upload on my first input effort and submittal, but it is located there now for you to read. Tell me if you have trouble opening it. ;)

Chears,

Al

Hi Marty,

I just noticed that you live in Hamilton, Montana. I used to fly fish around there with Larry Dean (HHS Class of '63) and his father. (Larry's father was a senior level manger at the Boeing Space Center at Kent in the day.) We traveled there in my youth for several summers to fish on the Clark Fork River and its tributaries.  The streams were full of big trout in the day. You just needed to know what insect was hatching when you fly fished there for catching the bigger fish. Some areas or stream sections were catch and release only (we had to cut the fly hook barb off).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clark_Fork_River

I have fond memories of those summer fishing trips. Larry's father, Francis Dean, was born and raised there (and his brother was a local town doctor in the day.)  I am sure that the area has changed a lot since the last time I was there in the 1980's. An Adams fly with #12 or #14 hook (see fly photo shown below) was a good choice for summer trout fishing there, and it was easy to tie up using tying supplies we bought from Herters. My skills at fly tying are long gone (along with my eyesight for close up details and fingers coordination). The stream bottoms were very slippery in the summer months. Our waders required felt outer pads on the wader shoe bottoms for added wading safety and stability. I came close to drowning in the river once when my waders filled up with the icy cold water before I added felt pads to the soles of my hip boots... I could not afford to save up for the higher price of chest waders and also afford a quality pole and floating fly line at 12 and 13 years old. You had to get the local farmers' permission to cross their pastures to get to the best river or creek fishing holes. This permission was easier to obtain if you were hosted like we were by a well-known local family.

Cheryl Miller and I  attended the "Opening Year Celebration & Ribbon Cutting" last night (6/15/22) showing off the newly renovated Highline High School.  We saw Jim Dickinson there. Even though we didn't get to speak to them  Nancy (Yarno) and her husband, John Leonard,  both spoke to the audience about their experiences at the school.  The new school looks fabulous; and other than the entrance which was purposely made to look like the original,  it was hard to believe it was the same school that I had attended many years ago.  I wish we had seen more classmates while there but I will encourage all classmates to take any future opportunities to check out the beautiful new building.

Alternative News Source for Veterans & Those Interested in a military point of view of current events.

Here is a source of interesting Situation Reports (AKA "Sitreps" in the US Military communities) The posts are from a retired, former JSOF Command operative on his personal information website in his blog postings. The postings are not interactive with his readers (that i can surmise.) He also sells mens' moustache grooming products. I am not a customer of his products. blush

The "Monkey Werx" author appears to be a PNW or West Coast resident from the photos that he posts on his independent journalist website. He is an alternative news publisher that provides current news summaries about all kinds of subject matter happening across the globe (mostly from a military intel operations point of view by observing his reporting format.):

You missed a few of us at the Highline ribbon cutting event. Besides myself I was sitting around Bruce Mennella, Bill Hamilton, Howard Jenks, Larry Ohrt and Ken Becker. Sorry I missed you and anyone else I might have missed.

Gary, I am so sorry we missed your group.  Cheryl and I both commented on Nancy stating that she enjoyed seeing all the graduates from 1964 there and we wondered who she was talking about because we thought we were the only two or three there.  Hope you had a great time.

Hi Gary,

Sorry to have missed the occasion. Had to take my wife to the clinic. I especially miss Ken. We met many times at RCC, being both engineers. I apologize again, Ken for not realizing you were from our HIghline class at those times. Well, you were bald headed. I continue to think about chemistry, which I did professionally for 51 years.

Gentlemen,

Happy Fathers' Day for all of you fathers out there, especially for you stepfathers and foster fathers who accepted the mission to be a father to a child who did not get the chance to have a birth father who was present in the important years of their life. Love is the word, mentorship in your senior years is the gift that you have to share with those in need of support in good and hard times. God bless you all. Have a great day.

I'm watching the Formula 1 race on the TV after coming home from church today.        GO MAX (Red Bull Racing)! Red Bull Racing [RBR] has done better after they separated from Aston Martin and hired Max Verstappen as RBR Formula 1 Team's lead driver two years ago. The 2022 RBR F1 car prototype is shown below.

The Porsche AG Team did well at Le Mans in LMGTE Pro Class last week. Corvette Racing, not so much.

Cheers!

Al

Tape Player in a motor vehicle radio -- We still have one of those in our 1997 Chevy S-10 pickup. We use it to listen to book audio tapes while we are out on long road trips....otherwise, we have a Sirius subscription and CD player in our 2012 Jetta.laugh East of the Cascades and Rockies, the tape and CD players are invaluable to us for added music entertainment or education on long road trips. Our e-Tablets are used for motels and stays with relatives for us.

What a Internet adicted society we live in! my 'smartphone" is not connected to the Internet; I only use it for voice comms, texting, and photos/videos. Keep your GPS location and banking transactions private for maximum security on the road. Social media apps and Google track you. The car players can also help you keep awake while driving at night (especially alone). Some of the libraries still have audio book tapes you can check out and listen to. Our 1998 travel trailer still has a tape player in it. We stll have lots of usable music and educational audio tapes that we keep away from hot temperature exposure; always resourceful in audio and video assets when retired sometimes comes in handy. Using a lot of bandwidth on the cell phone airways can also become very expensive, especially in very remote service areas.

Elon Musk's Starlink (thousands of small satellites in orbit) communication networks constellation may reduce the cost of videos transmission and provide reliable broadband Internet services available to remote areas and vehicles across America for a reasonable subscriber cost:

https://www.starlink.com/

A Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation of redundent 'smallsats" for Internet services. Musk owns the Space-X launch system. Other systems like Inmarsat use GEO satillites or medium earth orbit satellites like the military normally uses. Cool stuff. The Space-X system is very similar to the Teledesic system that was proposed by the two PNW McCaw brothers in the telecommunications industry and Bill Gates in the late 1990's.  Musk's advantage is that he owns and operates the space launch systems neeeded to place (and replace) Starlink satellites in their LEO positions. Truth Social (alternaive to Twitter)and Rumble (alternative to YouTube) now have the Starlink System as a backup to Internet access if the [DS] blacks out (by denial of service take down attack) portions or all of the Internet globally. Next Generation Laser comms will inprove its accuracy and availability, even in major sun spot storm interference time periods. The Internet, international financial currency services (Musk started the PAYPAL banking system), and communications services indudtry is much bigger than the electric cars market. Space-X also has lucritive Federal Government space products contracts with NASA and other alphabet title government agencies, Space-X is a vertically integrated enterprise company and an international commerce services company. Eat your hearts out, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, WEF, and Warren Buffet! It's too bad that Steve Jobs isn't still alive to invent new earth computer work stations  for Musk's Starlink technology projects. Here is a hyperlink to a 2020 article on the subject of large LEO comms small satellite constallations development projects history:

Great nostalgic picture.

Sure looks a lot more 'friendly' and 'peaceful' than today.  Seatlle used to be my favorite place to go...waterfront, Pike Place Market, 5 & dime stores, Frederick and Nelson to window shop....especially at Christmas, and fish & chips at Ivars.

I miss those days.

IVAR'S BURIEN SEAFOOD BAR

If you still live in the Burien 'metroplex' area you can still enjoy the Ivar's menu offerings at their address on 148th Street near 1st Avenue. It is still listed on the Internet at the Ivar's website ( see hyperlink below). Even Starbucks is closing stores in Seattle. It was still there the last time we were up in Burien. There was also one in South Tacoma near I-5. We still like to eat at Ivar's restaurants, and I am glad to see they survived the C-19 plandemic purge of small businesses.
